Using 2012 color trends in your painting projects

Tangarine Tango Pantone 2012 Color of the Year

Spring 2012 color forecast

Spring is almost here…..well, almost in our sunny state of Florida. Clothing designers are forecasting the hot trends for Spring in home improvement projects will be adding bold, bright colors to your spaces. Fresh color recommendations from the Pantone Color Institute include their 2012 Colour of the Year –Tangerine Tango, plus Solar Power (yellow), Bellflower (purple) and Cabaret (hot pink).  www.pantone.com

Debbie Zimmer color expert at the Paint Color Institute (www.paintquality.com ) and the color experts at Benjamin Moore (www.benjaminmoore.com ) are forecasting slightly safer colors for both interior and exterior paint this season. 2012 paint colors will be looking to the great outdoors for inspiration. “Plants, flowers, oceans, lakes and minerals will be the sources of color”, according to Zimmer. Exterior colors will be using varying shades of neutrals with shutters being monochromatic, low-contrast to the body of the house instead of the traditional black, red or green high-contrast look.

So how do you incorporate neutrals with brights? Well it is possible to add exciting colors to your spaces with accessories and painting key objects in a room.

Adding color to your home:

Consider painting one wall a color you love while keeping the other walls neutral. You get the added “pop” of color without feeling overwhelmed. Also, experiment with the varying hues of a particular color. You may love Pantone’s 2012 Colour of the Year, but decide to choose a less intense shade for larger areas.

Paint a bookcase, some wooden chairs, or even the ceiling a color. This will add a color burst to your room.

Use color in your room accessories: throw pillows, blankets, towels, tablecloths in vivid colors will add interest and fun to any room.

Welcome visitors to a beautiful bright hue on your front door. Not only will this add a welcoming feeling but will add some vitality and enthusiasm to the visitor’s mood.

Adding color to your business:

Making the right impression for your business begins with your office layout and color. Think about the type of business you are in and the image you wish to project. Most businesses need to portray a corporate environment but using color in small doses can exude confidence, individuality and fun.

Consider, again, adding color to your bookcases or chairs. Want to energize your conference room and spark the flow of conversation and ideas? Use paint in a hue of red you like to get the conversation started.

Incorporating 2012’s “back to nature” paint palette along with fashion designers “bold, brights” can be an exciting way to bring out your personality and add interest and fun within your home and offices spaces.
