Job Site Marketing Ideas for Painting Contractors – Part 1 of 2


Most seasoned painting contractors already know the effectiveness of marketing to other potential customers near your current job site.  Here are some tips for the new start-ups or those who may not have integrated these tactics into their daily work schedules.


Yard signs:  For a small investment your local print shop can develop yard signs with your business name and contact information to place in your current customers yard for others to see.  Weather resistant and reusable, these signs will last a long time.  The curious neighbor who now realizes their house needs painting may just pick up the phone and call.  Don’t forget to include your website address on the sign, often times people like to visit a website before deciding to call a company.  We’ll cover effective website building for contractors in another post.

Flyers:  Your local print shop can develop flyers for you to distribute within the community you are working in.  Consider ordering a large quantity, this will save you money and you’ll have plenty on hand to distribute in other areas.

Email marketing:  Your local print shop can provide you with mailing lists, by zip code and/or subdivision, so you can begin a mailing campaign to neighbors several weeks before you’re in their neighborhood.  This is a great way to introduce yourself and your company, let the neighbors know what you do, when you’ll be in the neighborhood and how they can reach you should they require any of your services.

Vehicle Identification;  While not always a “low-cost” option, having your vehicle wrapped or lettered will begin to “brand” your company name within the community and will identify who you are for others to see on a job site and as you drive.  The more recognizable your company name and logo becomes over time, the better chance you will have of receiving a call from someone who now recognizes your vehicle.

Clothing:  You and your team should consider wearing company t-shirts with all identifying information.  This will extend your branding within the community and help identify who you are to the neighbors.  People don’t like a bunch of workers around if they don’t know who they are.

Business cards:  Make sure you and your team carry business cards where ever you go, even on the weekends!  You never know who will ask for one or when the opportunity will arise to give them out. So be prepared!

These low-cost ideas can bring in business with little effort and expense. So set yourself apart from the other guy and begin getting your company noticed!
